The main reasons I have found why Energy Healing may not work is either, the person being healed really does not want to be healed, their illness is part of their chosen spiritual path, they are in protection mode, or they have beliefs which are blocking the healing (or, similarly, caused the issue in the first place and are not ready to be released yet).
Further, there are often many layers of healing which are required, and most people are not instantly healed unless they have done a lot of work to clear themselves from "stuff" (e.g., stuck emotions, negative beliefs etc) in this life, their lineage, and past lives. This applies to the healer as well. If the healer has many energy blockages, they cannot be a very good channel to facilitate healing energy to someone else.
An example of not wanting to be healed is someone who defines themselves by their illness or disease. Another case it where someone my loose wanted attention if the are healed, or even a law suit.
Before we are born, our souls create a plan to learn certain life lessons. For some people, that includes disability, illness, or disease. In these cases, no amount of Energy Healing will be able to "cure" this person as they have chosen this path for their highest and best. Ideally, an Energy Healer will become aware if this is the case or not during a session.
Finally, both the healer and the person receiving the energy need to be in growth mode (as opposed to protection mode). Protection mode is the fight or flight mode where cortisol is released. In growth mode, the body is calm and receptive; the parasympathetic nervous system is activated. When you are protection mode, unconscious activities become second priority as your body is in response mode. For example, your body stops digesting any food in your stomach and blood is made available to your extremities to enable a quick escape. If a person is nervous about an Energy Healing treatment, they are unconsciously preventing a healing from taking place. One way to ensure both people are in growth mode is to conscious deep breathing (e.g., breathe in for 5 seconds and out for 5 s).
