Different Psychic Practices (Definitions)

I find that many people who are unfamiliar with energy work do not realize that there are many types of psychic practices.  Most practices are all similar in that they require the skills to connect with spirit (other dimensions) and sense energy, but there are some major differences as well.  Note that anyone can develop psychic abilities if they practice.

The following is a list with brief descriptions of some of the main forms of spirit or energy connection:

General Psychic Work
Many modes of spiritual communication use psychic abilities to connect with other beings or source.  Psychics abilities include clairvoyance (seeing), clairsentience (feeling/touching), clairaudience (hearing/listening), clairalience (smell), claircognizance (knowing), and clairgustance (tasting).  Psychics can get information about the client including the past, present and potential future events, spirit guides and give healing messages.  They may also see auras and and get information from objects belonging to someone (psychometry).  General psychics may combine different modes of communicating in one reading.  There are also many variations and specializations in this category (including scrying and reading cards, tea leaves, runes etc as aids)

Mediumship
Mediumship is the ability to connect and communicate specifically with people who have passed.

Channeling
When channeling, spirit communicates through the channeler directly.  The channeler's voice and demeanor may change during a channel.  A channeler can channel people who have passed and other beings or entities as well.  Channeling includes automatic writing.  Both mediumship and channeling can be very draining as part of your energy combines with spirit.

Remote Viewing
Remote viewing is the practice of seeking impressions about a distant or unseen target using paranormal means, in particular, Extra-Sensory Perception (ESP) or "sensing with the mind". [1] Targets can be a photo in an envelope, or a place like someone's house.

Astral Projection
Astral Projection (or astral travel) is an out-of-body experience (OBE) where your astral body (energy body) leaves yours physical body but is still connected by an energetic cord.  It is similar to remote viewing except you feel like you are physically somewhere else.  This can be done consciously or unconsciously (in a dream state).

Energy Healing 
Energy healing encompasses many forms of energy facilitation including Reiki. An Energy Healing Practitioner facilitates energy flow to energize the body, locate and clear energy blockages, and remove psychic debris. Energy healing also helps to align and ground the energy body and balance the chakras (energy centres) of the body.  Energy flow is facilitated by either the placement of hands on the recipient or from a distance.  During energy healing, the practitioner is a conduit for energy which helps to clear the energy of the practitioner as well.

Telepathy
Telepathy is the transmission of information from one being to another without using any of our known sensory channels or physical interaction. [2]
