Dolphin Convocation

I first swam with wild dolphins in 2004 on a live-aboard in the Bahamas.  The trip happened to be during the Transit of Venus on June 8th.  This did not mean anything to me at the time, but now I believe it was significant.

On June 7th on the boat, I was wearing a necklace with a clear quartz crystal in the shape of a heart.  On one of our encounters with dolphins, I was taking pictures of them surfing the bow waves at the bow of the boat when the crystal, against the rail, broke out from its holder and fell into the ocean.  I was actually quite devastated and cried because I really liked the crystal.  That night, when I went to bed, every time I closed my eyes, I saw dolphins - playing, swimming, transforming.  The images then turned into millions of dolphins forming a clockwise spiral of different colours like a hologram before I fell asleep.

The next day, without knowing about what I saw, someone on the trip who has traveled and studied dolphin myths and legends talked about a story in his book.  He talked about a convocation of dolphins which occurs every year in Bali around May 3-6th where millions of dolphins come together in a spiral formation.

In a future meditation, I got that crystal helped the dolphins to better communicate with me because the crystal has my energy.  At the same time, I found it comforting that part of me will always be with them in the ocean - Titanic (the movie) style.

I hope to swim with dolphins during this years Transit of Venus on June 5th.

Since I wrote this post, I have learned that there have not been any substantiated sightings of a dolphin convocation in Bali; however, I believe this is a spiritual event for dolphins as opposed to a physical event.
